A Sneak Peek

Wow! This week has really flown by! I have been busy preparing for my Mardi Gras themed birthday party! I have had so much fun decorating, but in the process I have made a huge mess of my house. My plans for tonight-clean the house like a mad woman! I thought I would share a few photos of the decorations so far!

The two photos below are poor quality shots of my mantle. I decorated the mantle with two arrangements made up of hurricane vases, colorful tinsel, masks, and beads. I also draped the mantle with two feather boas and a lot of Mardi Gras beads.

Here are a few close-up shots of the arrangements on the mantle.

I made arrangements for my side tables that are on either side of my couch. These arrangements are simpler because guests are welcome to grab the "party favors" that I used to create them. This is the first arrangement.

The second arrangement.

I decorated my nesting table with votive candles. I am using a lot of candles to set the scene for the party. Below are a few photos of the nesting table. It is simple, but I think it's cute!

I hope you enjoyed the sneak peek of my party decorations! I will be back on Monday with pictures from the party! Have a wonderful weekend!!!

Cute And Cheap

I found some cute shoes today at Payless! I just had to share! I purchased the flats (on sale for $17.99), but I decided not to get the heels. They are so cute though! I may have to go back for them! They are on sale for $22.99.

I also wanted to let you know that the little yellow jacket I blogged about from Ann Taylor Loft is on sale for $59.99 with an extra 40% off (in store only). In store, Ann Taylor Loft has 40% off all clearance items! Here's the picture of the jacket in case you don't remember it.

Speaking of cute and cheap, my middle sister has started a blog. Only kidding about the cheap part! She is cute, but she is definitely not cheap. You can visit her blog here. Make sure to head on over and welcome her to the blog world!

Monday Edition: My Favorite Things

I have so much to up-date you on, so this post is going to be of the bulleted variety!
  • First of all, Heather (my friend, side kick, and coworker) now has a personal blog . Check out her blog here. She is too fun! I know you will love her as much as I do!
  • The wedding this weekend was fabulous. The GA Aquarium Ballroom is a beautiful place to have a reception. Our table was near the beluga whale tank. I love the beluga whales. They are so precious and personable. Mark Richt (UGA Football coach) was also at the wedding. He is precious! I call him my coach boyfriend because I just think he is the cutest. In reality, he doesn't know I exist. I was going to ask him to dance, but I totally chickened out.
  • On Sunday, Michael and I went to the terra cotta warrior exhibit at the High Museum. It was fabulous! I thoroughly enjoyed it! It's a must see if you are in the area!
And finally, my favorite thing! You are going to think I am crazy for even suggesting this product, but I love it-Sally Hanson's Airbrush Legs! It's make-up for your legs!

I have very fair skin. I am just plain pale with no hope of ever getting a tan. I don't use fake tanner because I can not get an even tan with fake tanner (I do get airbrushed sometimes in the summer and that works great). However, I can't stand the way my legs look in pretty dresses and I hate wearing hose! My solution is this leg make-up! It looks natural, but it does have a little sexy shimmer to it. It covers imperfections on your legs, and it is super easy to apply. It keeps me from being self-conscious about my super white legs! It comes in three shades for light, medium, and dark skin tones. The only negative is that I have had problems with the nozzle on the can clogging. This can be avoided by shaking the can vigorously before spraying. If you don't have time to tan or if you are tan resistant like me, give it a try!

A Thank You and An Apology!

I just wanted to thank all of you for your sweet birthday wishes! You helped make my birthday so very special! I also want to thank all of you who sent in suggestions for my Mardi Gras party! I received so many great suggestions! I am getting so excited! I wish all of you lived closer and could come help me celebrate!

I do want to apologize for being MIA lately with commenting on your blogs. I have been a bit under the weather and also a little overwhelmed with work. I am doing my best to catch up on all your fabulous blogs, and hopefully I will be back in the swing of things soon!

Also, I have gained so many new blog friends lately. Yippee! I love blog friends! I have not up-dated my blog roll in a while, so please let me know if I don't have you on my blog roll. I will be more than happy to add you!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! The hubby and I are headed to Atlanta this weekend for a wedding that is being held at The Georgia Aquarium. It should be a great time! What are your plans this weekend?

It's A Girl!

That's right! 30 years ago today, my Mom and Dad heard those words again! I was their last attempt at a little boy, but God gave them a little girl. My poor Dad never did get a little boy-only 3 little girls, but I don't think he minded. After all, I am his favorite! :)

It is so hard to believe I am thirty. I don't feel a day over 23. I have had a wonderful birthday so far. Although, I have been a bit under the weather. I was very sick yesterday, but today I am feeling much better. I did have to take cold medicine and that makes me a little (more like a lot) loopy. My coworkers are enjoying this. They think that my altered state is hilarious!

To celebrate my 30th, I thought I would share 30 things you probably didn't know about me. I hope you enjoy!

1. I have a very large head. My head is as big as my husbands. It comes from my Dad's side of the family. We all have very large heads.

2. I am the star of a YouTube video. Don't worry! It was for work. I promise it is not "adult entertainment".

3. My voice is a little high pitched. It makes me sound like I am 10 year old little girl. Telemarketers always ask me if my Mom is at home. :)

4. My last name is a color spelled funny.

5. I used to be a middle school teacher. I taught middle school agriculture (6-8th grade) for 3 years.

6. I have ridden a pig-a real one.

7. I was once a Cherokee Princess. In other words, I was a camp counselor for many years at Rock Eagle 4-H Center.

8. I don't find Brett Michaels attractive, but I can see where other people would.

9. I name my cars.

10. My first car was a red Pontiac Grand Am named Pocaswana.

11. I am still afraid of the dark.

12. I freaked out about the first wedding dress I bought and ended up buying another. I loved the second one!

13. I want to take a trapeze class.

14. I can put my whole fist in my mouth.

15. I was named after one of my Dad's students. She was in my Dad's high school agriculture class, and she was one of my Mom's cheerleaders. They thought she was sweet, so they named me after her.

16. I giggle at inappropriate times.

17. I'm an open book. I don't mind telling people anything that they ask about my life.

18. I love to google myself and other people when I get bored!

19. I don't reveal my last name on my blog because I have a stalker who likes to call me a fat and call me a b****. I don't want her to find me. She is a very mean person.

20. When I was a little girl, I had a reoccurring nightmare that there were goats in my room.

21. My husband and I met on a blind date. Michael's parents also met on a blind date. My parents were high school sweethearts.

22. I graduated with my undergrad and Masters at The University of Georgia, but I also went to a Jr. College (ABAC) in my hometown of Tifton for my first two years of college.

23. A friend and I had a radio show while we were at ABAC. It was called, "The Amber and Jennifer Show". Such a creative name!

24. I was the Valedictorian of my high school. Well, co-Valedictorian. My best friend and I had the same GPA. We shared the honor.

25. I have a hard time telling my left from my right in pressure situations. For example, if we are driving somewhere and Michael tells me to turn right, I panic and can't remember my right from my left.

26. My favorite food is fried artichoke hearts from a little restaurant in Athens called Amicis.

27. I buy cat food for and feed the stray cats that live at the recycling center near our house.

28. I'm a spender and not a saver, but I am trying to be better about my spending habits.

29. I am very tender-hearted, and I get very upset if I think I have hurt or offended someone.

30. My husband calls me bunny. Not sure how that came to be my pet name, but I think it is sweet!

Party Help Needed!

Okay ladies! I decided on a theme for my 30th birthday party! And the winner is.......Mardi Gras! Now I need your help! Any party ideas? I am going to have a lot of beads, masks, and alcohol, but other than that I am stumped! What are your ideas?

Also, my party is going to be January 31st (a little later than my actual birthday) in Athens, GA. I know that some of my blog friends live in the area, so if you are interested in coming to the party you are definitely on the guest list! Just e-mail me if you are interested!

Thanks in advance for your party tips! I know they will be helpful! I can't wait to read them!!!

Inauguration Day

Well, It's Jan. 20th-Inauguration Day! And why, you may ask, do we care so much about Inauguration Day? That's an easy answer-for the dresses-of course. Yahoo has a picture gallery of inaugural ball gowns beginning with Taft. You can view it here. It is so neat to go back in time and look at all the wonderful dresses! I hope you enjoy.

Also, I realize Inauguration Day is about more than just the dresses. I was only kidding about that part-well kind of kidding! It's a changing of power. It's a celebration. It is a welcome as well as a farewell. No matter who you voted for or your party affiliation, don't forget that the President and all the leaders of our Nation need your prayers. Pray that they are led to do what is best for our country.

Oh, and I almost forgot! I found this article on how they move the Presidents in and out of the White House. I thought it was interesting, but I'm kind of a nerd like that!

Monday Edition: My Favorite Things

I have finally found it-something that will actually hold my hair in an up-do. I have always been so jealous of women who could quickly twist their hair up, secure it with a claw, and go on their merry way. I can twist my hair up, secure it with a claw, and five minutes later my hair is a mess again. I have very thick hair, but it is very fine in texture. Translation: My hair slips out of any thing I try to pull it back with. This is definitely not good for those days when you wake up late. For me waking up late either means being very late to work because I have to completely fix my hair or looking like a disaster because all I have time for is a messy ponytail that may or may not stay up.

No more messy work ponytails for me! I found a hair clip that magically holds my hair in place. Am I beginning to sound like an info-mercial? Anyway, I found it at Wal-Mart after seeing my sister with one. It is made by Goody (if you follow link, it is the 4th or 5th picture), and the best way I can describe it is as a sideways hair claw. See picture below.
Try it out if you struggle with keeping your hair up. I absolutely adore mine. Oh, and the best part. They are really cheap. I think I paid $2.50 for mine! You have to love good hair at a bargain! :)

Friday Photos

Happy Friday! I am so excited about Friday! I don't have anything in particular planned for the weekend, but I am sure I will find something to get into! For laughs today, I thought I would share a few funny photos with you! I hope you have a wonderful weekend, and I hope you enjoy the photos!

This photo (above) is from our white water rafting excursion. Michael and I went white water rafting with a few friends as an anniversary trip. We shared the boat with 3 people we didn't know and a guide. Look at the poor woman in the center (she is one of the people that we didn't know). She looks absolutely terrified. It makes me giggle!

This picture (above) is of my dog, Boone. He is pouting because he is about to get a bath. This picture always makes me smile. He just looks so funny sitting in the bath tub!

When Heather and I get way too bored at work, we play with Photo booth on her Mac. Playing on photo booth keeps us laughing for hours. Above are some of our photo booth masterpieces!

I hope you have enjoyed a few of the pictures that makes me giggle! I hope they provided a good laugh for you too! Have a great weekend! I will be back to blogging full force on Monday!!!

I'm Back!

Hi all! I'm back from market! I had so much fun, but I am oh so tired. My mom, sister, and I found so many cute things for the store, and we walked a million miles while doing it. In fact, my feet and legs are still sore. They are sore enough that I considered letting the sketchy massage man in the middle of the mall rub on me this afternoon, but then when I pictured the sketchy massage man with his hands on me I decided that my legs and feet didn't hurt that bad at all! :) Too bad it takes forever and costs so much to get a massage appointment at the spa.

Going to market always gives me a bad case of "the wants". Good thing there is very little you can purchase without making a huge order. However, I did order a new set of luggage from Murval. I was able to tack it on to the order my mom and sister made for their store. It is so cute. I can't wait for it to come in. I can't find a picture, but I promise to share a picture as soon as it comes in. The luggage is a blue and brown pattern, and it is made out of laminated canvas. It has the 360 degree wheels. I am so excited. I haven't had a new piece of luggage in years.

I also visited the apparel mart while I was there. I purchased a precious black and white swing jacket and if I were the sample size I would have come home with a beautiful lilac Nicole Miller dress. However, I am not sample size, and even at the wholesale price my pocket book is thankful that I am not the sample size.

Before I sign off, I want to thank Good Gals Inc. for giving me a few awards. She is just the sweetest! I love her blog, and I am so honored that she is my blog friend.

The New Year Award:

The Truly Beautiful Award:

It reads: You Are Truly Beautiful. Beautiful means so much more than just a pretty face! It also means that you are unique, and oh so full of grace! The things in you that go on much deeper than the softness of your skin. Are the things that make you beautiful, both outside and within!

Rules:
Find the beautiful ladies that you follow.
Give them this award.
Hopefully it'll truly mean something to each and everyone of you.
Don't be shy to give it to the same person!
Don't forget to tell them!

I want to pass the beautiful award to all the blogs that I follow. Each blogger that I follow is so beautiful both inside and out. Every one of my blog friends are beautiful in their very own way. I am so blessed that the blog world has allowed me to "meet" so many amazing new friends. I am always so overwhelmed with how strong, open-hearted, honest, and talented all of you are!

I Haven't Been Kidnapped

I just wanted to let all my blog friends know that I will be away for a little while this coming week. Yippeee! I am going to market with my mom and oldest sister! I am going to try to find time to get in a little blogging, but if I can't I will be back on Wednesday. Don't give up on my while I am away!

Oh, and here is the story behind the title of this post. My middle sister called me during lunch one day. However, I couldn't talk because I was in a car full of people on a business lunch. I accidentally answered the phone instead of sending her to voice mail. I quickly told her I couldn't talk because I was in a car full of people and hung up. I get a text message five minutes later that says, "You aren't being kidnapped are you?" She is too funny! I laughed so hard!

So, nope I am not being kidnapped, I am just going to be away for a little while! Have a very wonderful weekend!!

My Comments are Not Appreciated!

Don't worry! I am talking about the comments I make at Weight Watchers, not my blogging comments! Yes, this is leading up to a Weight Watcher Meeting story! I haven't posted one of these in a long time.

I went to my WW meeting this week, and our leader started talking about how it is important to write down the food and the point value before you eat it because many foods are more points than you realize. Then she asked us if we had ever eaten anything without realizing it was so many points. One girl raised her hand, and talked about going to get drinks with her friends. She stated that she didn't realize that beer was so many points, and she quickly drank 9 points without even realizing it. I quickly replied, "That's why you stick to hard liquor!" (Liquor has less points when compared to beer-if you were wondering) Of course, I was only kidding (kind of), but some of the stuffier crowd at the meeting didn't appreciate my comment. Oh, those who take life too seriously! However, the beer girl thought my comment was funny and appreciated the hard liquor tip!

How to Celebrate 30 years?

Hello Blog Friends!!! I need your help! I will be turning 30 this month, and I would love to mark the occasion with a birthday party. However, I can not decide on a theme. Do you have any ideas? I wanted to go with a theme party because last year for my 29th birthday I had an 80's party. It was so much fun, and a little out of control. However, I am having a hard time coming up with another theme.

I thought about a red carpet theme where everyone comes dresses as their favorite actor or movie character. I also thought about a Roaring 20s theme, but I thought the costumes might be a little hard to come by. I have even considered a Mardi Gras theme. What do you think? Any ideas?

While I am at it, I will share my 80's party with you! For my 80's party, everyone came dressed in 80's attire. We had a house full of people! There were over 40 people that came! It was so wonderful to be surrounded by so many friends on my birthday! The 80's party also included:

  • Capri Suns injected with alcohol. (also had beer and wine)
  • All 80's music.
  • Decorated with 80's posters-Top Gun, Ghost Busters, The Goonies, and The Breakfast Club.
  • Party favors: slap bracelets, pop rocks, neon sunglasses, stacking point pencils, and jelly bracelets
  • Food: Combos, Cool Ranch Doritos, a cracker, meat, and cheese tray (reminiscent of Lunchables), and then just normal party food.
  • 80's movies playing in the background.
  • Mario Brothers and Miss Pac Man available for playing.
  • The Cake: The cake had a picture of the Saved By The Bell cast with my head on Kelly's body.
  • There was also a Mr. T cardboard cut out.
  • I also had a picture area with props.

Like I said, it was a little out of control, but it was so much fun! Oh, and I realize I went a little into the early 90's, but it was all in good fun! Here are a few photos.

This picture is of me and my husband, Michael. Michael went for the Miami Vice look.

This picture below is of me and my friend, Claibourne. We are proudly posing with our alcohol injected Capri Suns.

Below is a picture taken in the picture area with props. Pictured here is Erin, Ali, and me. By the way, my friend, Mary Ann, did my hair that night. My hair is naturally very, very straight, so it was amazing that she made it look like I had a spiral perm!

Below is my Saved By The Bell cake. I am a huge Save By The Bell fan. I watch it every morning.

Here is a closer look at the photo my friend, Heather, photoshopped for me to put on the cake.

A Quick Note on A Super Busy Day

Hi all! I have been super busy today(a good kind of busy though), so I haven't had time to read all of your lovely blogs! Hopefully, I will catch up tomorrow! However, I wanted to pop in and say "hello"! I also wanted to let you know that I am headed to market in Atlanta (A big thanks to A Bell and her Beau for reminding me of this.) on Monday and Tuesday (Jan. 12th and 13th). I might be there for a short time on Sunday (Jan. 11th) also. Is anyone else going to be there? I was just wondering if I would have a chance to meet any of you or at least stop by and say a quick "hello".

I Have A Confession to Make!

Well, I guess I could make several confessions, but my one main confession today is that I am such an ill pot today! I don't know what is wrong with me, but boy am I grumpy! I can't even blame it on PMS. I am just plain grumpy, which is very out of character for me. Confessing my grumpiness did make me feel better- now maybe innocent by-standers will get to keep their heads.

To make this post interesting, I will confess a few other things. Let's see what dirt I can dig up on myself!
  • I recently became hooked on the most horrible television programming ever-The Secret Life of An American Teenager. Oh yes, I wasted a whole day watching the first season on ABC family. It's terrible, but I'm hooked.
  • I really stink at Guitar Hero. We received the game as a gift from a friend this Christmas. I thought it would be easy to pick up-I mean my 7 year old nephew plays it. Nope! Not coordinated enough! Oh, and did I mention that I actually injured myself while trying to play. I pressed the buttons on the guitar so hard that I caused a huge knot to come up on my wrist.
  • I'm really a little old lady in a 29 year old body. Example: If I ever get a napkin or Kleenex, I hang on to it for a good portion of the day. I am one step from hiding them up my sleeve like my grandma. I also hum while I work, and I drove a large, white Buick for a while. By the way, I adored my Buick!
  • I listen to books on CD. Most of my books are considered chick-lit, but some of my books are just a couple of steps away from being romance novels. However, they are not romance novels. There is never any pirates or burning loins.
  • I didn't receive my first kiss until I was 18 years old. I was a late bloomer. However, I caught on like a pro and made up for lost time. Just kissing though. Nothing else.
  • This isn't dirt, but just a rather fun fact. I showed livestock. I showed pigs from 1st grade-12th grade. I also showed lambs in middle school and cows in middle school and high school.
  • Singing in front of people is terrifying to me. I would rather give a speech in front of 100,000 people than have to sing in front of 10 people. Therefore, karaoke is my idea of Hell.
I guess that is enough confessions for today. I will share more later. I haven't begun to break the ice....I mean there are so many sultry affairs and crimes of passion to share with you. Only kidding! I am pretty straight laced, but I definitely have a quirky side that is always up to something!

Monday Edition: My Favorite Things

This weekend I took a little trip to one of my favorite stores, Ann Taylor Loft, and renewed my love for a classic piece of clothing-the jacket or blazer. Jackets are wonderful pieces. They can add a little pizazz to your outfit. They can create a finished and professional look. They can give an illusion of curves or a tiny waist. They can even hide a few extra pounds. The key to the perfect jacket is of course, the fit! Trying on jackets is a must. You need to make sure the jacket hits you in all the right places or you could end up looking frumpy.

I usually have a hard time finding the perfect jacket, but I actually found two this weekend! Here are my finds:

The first jacket is a faux denim, and it looks so cute left open or buttoned. I purchased the pants that match, but the jacket is versatile and can be worn apart from the suit.

The second jacket is tweed. It looks a little clownish in this picture, but the ruffle around the color isn't this prominent in real life. I also purchased the tweed pants to complete this suit, but this jacket looks great with jeans or black pants. The best part-it was on sale!!!

I have to admit that I really wanted the yellow jacket above to add to my spring wardrobe, but a trip to the dressing room put a stop to that one. This jacket looked horrible on me, but remember just because it looked bad on me doesn't mean it will look bad on you!
This jacket is a little pricey, but boy is it cute!

Ann Taylor Loft does have some cute jacket right now, but remember that ATL is not the only store with jackets. I purchased a beautiful black blazer-like jacket at Belks. The GAP Outlet had a precious jean jacket that I drooled over. I even saw some cute jackets at Wal-Mart. Most jackets and blazers are on sale right now, so definitely keep your eye out for that perfect addition to your wardrobe the next time you are scanning the racks!

I know this post is all about jackets, but I will give you a sneak peak of what else I purchased.

I couldn't resist this sweet little ladybug pin. I think it will look precious on the lapel of my faux denim jacket.

These shoes look much cuter in person! I realize they are a wee bit on the tacky side, but they spoke to me. I had to have them, and they look so darn cute on my feet! It's like the little Sam & Libby shoes I used to wear as a kid all grown up!

And The Winner Is......

Thank you so much for everyone who entered to win the Lambie Slippers! I was so excited to have so many entries! I have also met so many new bloggers due to this giveaway. I am still trying to catch up on meeting everyone who entered, so if I haven't made it to visit your blog I will be there soon!!!

How do I decide a winner? Well, I am glad you asked! I printed out all the comments and assigned everyone numbers. Some people were assigned 1 number, others 2 numbers, and some were given three numbers depending on if you were a follower and if you posted about the giveaway on your blog. In all, there were over 150 entries! To choose a number, I visited my friend, The Random Integer Generator, and he chose the number assigned to AG at Lipgloss Lounge. Congratulations! I hope you love your lambie slippers as much as I do!!

Thank you again to everyone who entered! I wish I could send you all a pair of lambie slippers! If you didn't win and you do want your very own lamb slippers, make sure to head over to Bath and Body Works (on-line). The Lambie Slippers just went on sale! They are 50% off making them only $18.00! While you are visiting their site, might I suggest picking up a body wash or body splash in one of my very favorite scents, Brown Sugar and Fig! I always get so many compliments when I wear this scent, but I can't find it in stores anymore. I am so glad they bring back discontinued scents during the semi-annual sale!

Welcoming 2009!

I love the New Year! With a new year comes renewed excitement, hope, strength, and courage! I have so many things I want to try, see, and accomplish in 2009. I'm not sure I will get them all done, but I am going to have a great time trying! Here are my 2009 resolutions.
  • To be a better Christian and to develop a closer relationship with the Lord. I am a Christian, but I want to grow and further my Christian journey.
  • To adopt a healthier lifestyle. Yes, I want to lose weight, but I want to do more than just lose weight.
  • To learn how to manage my finances better and pay off credit card debt.
  • To de-clutter. This includes my house, my car, my office, and my life in general. I have already started on this resolution.
  • To be better organized.
  • To be on time (especially for work).
  • To be better about staying in touch with friends and family.
  • To stop worrying so much. (Let go and Let God)
  • To be a little more adventurous.
I think this is all of my resolutions. I may come up with more later! :) And because I love making lists, here are a few things I want to do in 2009!
  • Visit the new baby panda at Zoo Atlanta.
  • Visit the King Tut Exhibit.
  • Visit the Terracotta Warriors exhibit.
  • Re-visit the Georgia Aquarium
  • Visit the new World of Coke.
  • Take a wine tasting class with Michael.
