Master Bedroom Make-Over

Wow! This week has flown by! Sorry for my lack of posts! I have been consumed by a new vision for my bedroom decor. Here's how it all started.

On Monday, Michael and I went on a date to a local Italian restaurant. While having a very yummy meal, I noticed a framed movie poster. I immediately fell in love with the poster. I thought it was sexy without being slutty, and I thought it was perfect for our bedroom. Our bedroom definitely needs help. It's not sexy or slutty or even remotely attractive-it's beige.

I didn't even finish dinner that night. I pulled my notepad out of my purse and began scribbling notes. My plan for my bedroom is to transform it into a room that is both stylish and romantic. My vision includes painting an accent wall (the wall our bed is on), adding a new comforter (beige with gold undertones), accenting the comforter with a couple of colorful pillows (red), and of course the framed movie posters (posters will be hung on the longest wall in my bedroom not the accent wall).

I have searched the internet and local stores this week to find the perfect new pieces at the best prices for my bedroom transformation. So far, I have completed the bedding. Here are a couple of pictures below. Sorry for the junky nightstand. I should have cleaned it off before I took the pictures.

I am painting the wall directly behind the headboard. What color do you think I should paint the accent wall? I am thinking about painting it the same color as the red/burgundy pillow, but I am not sure about painting a wall in our bedroom red. I need your help! What do you think?

It looks FABULOUS! I love the the red accent. I would do a red accent color, but I LOVE color and especially red in homes! Whatever you do will look fantastic!

I think the red will be great! But you may have to do 2 or 3 coats. Not easy painting with red!!

I love the stylish/romantic theme. I think an accent wall would be really nice and some cool artwork, maybe off of Etsy or something. I also think that red would be fine. The new bedding is a great start and looks so nice. It’s amazing what a difference it makes.

Red would be PERFECT there, but I agree with preppy 101 it may take several coats (I paint the walls quarterly at work and it's frustrating how many coats the darker colors take!). Can't wait to see this much talked about movie poster...please post soon so we know!

Love the bedding! I love making over rooms. I am trying to get all of ours in our house done little by little. I finished up our bedroom a few months ago.

I love accent walls, but I think they can be tricky. We tried do an accent wall of navy blue and the rest were cream. It really didn't feel right or look good in our bedroom. We had to repaint that room.

I have seen accent walls that look amazing though too. I think it depends on how much contrast there is between the accent wall and the other walls. I think it would be neat to do the walls a lighter shade of the same color of the dark accent wall, but that would be hard to do with red because the other walls would probably be pink.

I also think an accent wall of wallpaper in the same hues as the other walls(there are so many neat kinds these days) to add texture is super chic. You could also try to mimic the pattern of the comforter in wallpaper or do a faux wallpaper by handpainting an exaggerated/enlarged design of the comforter on the wall.

Okay, seriously, I think I just must have wanted to type a lot. I think anything you choose will be beautiful! It looks like you have a great foundation started!

I think the red accent wall would look wonderful! Another idea is to do the red, and then maybe do a rag technique with gold over it! Now that would be GORGEOUS! Oh, and the other walls could stay beige, but do the gold rag over them! That would be stunning! I love your bedding! I think your room is going to look FAB when you are done!

I think red would look good, but the only bad thing would be that you would be stuck with the red if you get sick of it in a year or so... or maybe that just happens to me! haha

Oooh it is SO pretty!!! So romantic.

I would love the red, but it is SO hard to paint over if you get sick of it. I am way too practical, sorry :) But, that being said, it would look fantastic!

Ooh! Pretty! Go chocolate on the wall.

I LOVE the new bedding!

I would probably not do a red wall (for us) simply because it can be a harsh color & like others have said, if you don't like it it will be hard to correct.

I like the idea of darkening the wall to maybe a chocolate or coffee color.

I am excited about it as well. And for you ladies mentioning how hard dark colors are to paint over--a tip! I know this sounds strange, but grey primer. It covers the old color really well and is easy to paint over, too. I don't understand how, but it works.
