Monday Edition: My Favorite Things

This is going to be the most random favorite thing I have ever posted about, but I just have to share! Last night, Michael and I decided to cook Chinese food. Of course with Chinese food you have to have egg rolls! Not having the talent or a clue of how to make egg rolls, Michael and I settled for the frozen variety. I am picky about my egg rolls, so I didn't expect much from a box of frozen egg rolls. I was so wrong! The egg rolls were delicious! They were even better than the ones we usually get from a local restaurant! If you are in the market for frozen egg rolls try Chung's. (We had the white meat chicken variety.) I know this brand is available at Kroger and Wal-Mart, but I'm pretty sure it is available at any chain grocery store. Oh, and an added bonus-there was a $1.00 coupon for Chung's Eggrolls in this Sunday's paper.
For those of you who do not share my love of frozen egg rolls, I will share a second favorite thing with you. Have you tried these?
Colgate Wisps are tiny disposable toothbrushes with a freshening bead. There is no need for toothpaste or water. I picked up a 2 brush package for $1.00 at Kroger the other day. I haven't used them yet, but I am totally in love with them! No need to keep a full sized toothbrush and toothpaste at the office anymore! I can just pop these little cuties in my purse and have fresh breath at my fingertips. If you visit the Colgate web-site, you can download a 50 cents off coupon.

P.S.-Blogger is giving me trouble right now, so please excuse the lack of comments I have made on your blogs. Blogger won't let me comment. Hopefully, this issue will be resolved soon! I'm still reading your posts. I'm just not able to comment.

A Spring Favorite

One of my favorite wardrobe items for Spring and Summer has always been the casual dress. I have a hard time finding casual dresses because of the style of most, but I still love them. For example, "the town gown" that Old Navy has the ridiculous advertisements for-It is so very cute, but I am just a little too short and fluffy for that particular style. I don't need a dress that is going to make me look shorter and fluffier. However, if I were tall and thin you better bet I would have one in every color. Scratch that-if I were tall and thin I would probably walk around naked. Now you know why God didn't ever intend for me to be tall and thin! :)

Anyway, back to casual dresses! I haven't added any dresses to my Spring wardrobe yet, but I thought I would share of few I found on-line today. To be honest with you, I had a hard time finding exactly what I wanted to share, but I think you get the idea from the dresses below.

The two dresses above are both from Wal-Mart! Wal-Mart? I know I was surprised too! I found them on-line for $15.00 each! What a steal!

The above dress is from Macys.com. It is currently on sale for around $45.

This dress is also from Macy's. I'm not crazy about the neck line, but I thought the dress had a beautiful shape and would be very flattering to most figures. It is more expensive retailing at around $124, but hopefully it will go on sale soon!

Looking for a cute Spring dress on a budget? Here are my favorite places to search.
  • Wal-Mart
  • Target
  • Kohls
  • Old Navy
  • Ann Taylor Loft (sale rack)
  • TJ Maxx
  • E-bay
Happy Hunting!!!!

Easter Pictures

My friend, coworker, and sidekick, Heather, is an amazing photographer. She has just announced that she will be doing Easter pictures with real bunnies (big, white, friendly bunnies) on Sunday, March 29th. I am so excited about this, and I don't even have children. Secretly, I want my picture taken with the bunnies! I can't help it! Bunnies are just so cute! The sessions are going to be held in Statham, GA. If you are interested in having your child's picture taken or your own picture taken (Heather is cool. She won't judge you because you want your picture taken with bunnies.), please click on the picture above to visit her blog for more information.

True Love and Small Feet

Eight years ago today, Michael (my husband) and I had our very first date! How did we meet? On a blind date! Well, it was kind of a blind date. Here's our story-

When I was a student at UGA, I worked in the Office of Alumni Relations. One day Michael (also a student at UGA) came in to visit with the Administrative Assistant in the office (Mrs. Denise) because Michael and her daughter had gone to high school together. When Michael left, I asked Mrs. Denise who he was. I was just being nosy, but a light went off in Mrs. Denise's head. She quickly dragged Michael back into the office and introduced us. I was so embarrassed that I almost crawled under the desk. The next day Mrs. Denise came into work telling me that Michael thought I was cute and would love to call me and ask me on a date. Mrs. Denise was also telling Michael that I thought he was cute and that he should ask me for a date. Neither one of us had said a thing about each other. Mrs. Denise was just playing cupid. Michael finally called me, and we ended up talking for an hour on the phone. We quickly followed up our amazing phone call with our first date. I consider it a blind date since Michael and I had seen each other for all of 30 seconds prior to our date. It only took a few weeks before I was completely in love with Michael, and I love him more and more every day!

And since that story is just a little mushy, here is a funny story for you-
Yesterday Michael looked so cute that I just couldn't help but giving him a huge bear hug. I topped the hug with a kiss and an "I love you!" Of course, he told me that he loved me too, so being in a silly mood I asked, "Why do you love me?" His answer, "because you are pretty, you have a wonderful sense of humor, you're smart, and you have small feet." Small feet? Well, I guess our relationship is secure as long as my feet don't grow! :)

Here's the picture I promised. It is the first picture Michael and I ever took together. We look like babies. He was 19, and I was 21.

You know it is time to purchase blinds when....

Okay, I have to tell you the story of my creepy neighbor. The other night I was walking in my neighborhood for a little exercise. As I was walking, I saw one of my neighbors. He is not a close proximity neighbor. He probably lives a good 10 houses away. I stopped to talk to him and pet his precious little dog. We exchanged pleasantries, and I was about to walk away when he asked, "How do you like your Wii?". I know I had a confused look on my face because I was wondering how in the heck this guy knows I have a Wii. He quickly answered my confused look with, "When I walk at night I see you and your husband playing the Wii." I remained calm. I told him I really like the Wii especially Wii Fit, and then I went home to tell my husband we must purchase blinds for the windows immediately!

I do admit that when I walk at night, I do see people in their homes. I don't try to see into houses. I am just usually walking and looking around at the beautiful scenery when I happen to get a glimpse at a window. I always think it is neat to see people tucked away in their homes. It is almost like seeing a charming picture or a short clip from a movie. However, I would never, ever, ever tell someone I saw them. That is just creepy!

A little side note: The reason we don't have blinds yet is because we are saving up to get plantation shutters, but it looks like we may have to pick up some cheaper, temporary blinds from Lowes. If that guy saw us playing the Wii there is no telling what else he has seen. I wonder if he got a show the night Michael and I decided to learn to moon walk. That's a story I will save for another day!

Another little side note: Sorry I have been a little MIA this week. I have had two major work events that have consumed all of my time. By the way, both events went great and were fun! Yea! I am so glad they are over! I will be back to normal next week!

Just Wanted to Share

I love supporting locally owned businesses. I think locally owned businesses are what helps make a town charming and quaint! They add personality!

Athens has so many fun and funky places to visit. Heather and I went to lunch at a new little place just the other day! She took pictures and blogged about our new favorite lunch spot. Head on over to Heather's blog and read about our trip to Ike And Jane.

Monday Edition: My Favorite Things

My favorite item today is truly a sole saver! Sorry! Couldn't resist a pun! I adore fold-up ballet flats. I purchased a pair of Nine West fold-up ballet flats from Macy's a few years ago, and they have been worth every penny I spent on them! I carry these little shoes with me any time I wear heels. During a night out on the town, I am so happy to have my little ballet flats to slip in to. They are so comfortable and small enough to fit into my purse.

I can't find the Nine West shoes that I purchased, but I did find a great site that reviews and recommends a fold-up ballet flat (see pictures below). If your high heels are killing your feet by the end of the night, definitely invest in a cute pair of fold-up ballet flats!

What Animal Would You Be?

Every year my company sponsors 4 high school students on a trip to Washington DC. As a part of my job, I organize the contest. The contest consists of a written test and interview. Last night, we hosted 26 local students each competing for a chance to go to Washington DC this summer.

During the interview process, the judges asked each contestant to leave the room and come back in as an animal. They had to act out the animal and then tell why they chose that particular animal. I was not in the interview room, but caught a glimpse of a few of the "animals". It was hilarious! Heather and I had a hard time stifling our giggles!

Heather dared me to go in the interview room and act out an animal in between interviews. I didn't take the dare, but I did decide my animal. Oh, and I did act the animal out for Heather and another coworker later.

What animal would I be? I would be a flamingo! Why? Because I would be tall, thin, and pink! What more could you ask for!!!!

What animal would you be?

Monday Edition: My Favorite Things

Last weekend it snowed. This weekend we had perfect Spring weather. It was amazing! I spent as much time outdoors as possible. I also spent a little time getting our deck ready for Spring. Last Spring we didn't do much with our deck, but this Spring and Summer I want to take full advantage of it. I am currently shopping for deck furniture. I never knew deck furniture was so expensive! Michael and I narrowed it down to two choices, but we are having a hard time deciding. I will try to find pictures so maybe y'all can help us decide.

Today for my favorite things, I thought I would use some of the money saving tips that y'all provided on my "Cutting Corners Give Away". Many of us have traded in our department store make-up for drug store make-up in an effort to save money. The hard part about switching make-up is finding a new make-up that you love as much as your old brand. Here are a few of the favorites suggested by fellow bloggers:

  • Maybelline Mineral Make-Up (suggested by USC Emily)
  • Cover Girl Exact Eyelights Mascara (suggested by Jules)
  • Avon/Mark make-up recommends their $5 lip gloss (suggested by I'm Just Beachy)
  • Elf.com make-up recommends their mascara, bronzer, and eyeshadows (suggested by Blissfully Enamored and Amanda)
  • Revlon Color Stay Make-Up (suggested by Ginnbelle)
  • Rimmel's Stay Matte Powder (suggested by Shea)
  • L'oreal Infallable Foundation (suggested by Lis)
  • Cover Gilr Foundation and Loose Poweder (suggested by Lindesy)
  • Maybelline Dream Matte Mouse Foundation (suggested by Holly)
If you are finding it hard to part with your department store make-up, try finding it on ebay. I found my foundation on ebay for half the price. I was a little worried about buying my foundation off of e-bay, but when I received my package it was a new bottle of foundation that was still sealed!

Do you have a favorite budget friendly make-up?

Snow Day Pictures

It doesn't snow much in Athens, GA, so when it does snow it is definitely something to blog about! We received about 6.5 inches of snow on Sunday! We haven't seen that much snow in Athens since 1983 and before that since 1942. I, on the other hand, have never seen that much snow. Here are a few pictures from our white weekend!

A view from our front porch:

A view from our back porch:

Our electricity went out Sunday afternoon and was not restored until Tuesday morning. We passed the time by playing a lot of scrabble, being very silly, playing in the snow, and cuddling on the couch.

Here's a picture of Michael playing with the dogs in the snow. The puppies loved playing in the snow, but they were also very happy to come inside and warm up!

Here's a picture of us warming up. Please excuse my outfit in this picture. I was in my comfy clothes!
My only regret from this weekend is that I didn't get to go sledding. I did get to peg Michael with a snow ball, so I guess I can wait for our next snow to go sledding! :)

And the winner is...

I am sorry that I am late announcing my giveaway winner. The snow and power outage put me a little behind. A big thank you to everyone who entered my "Cutting Corners" giveaway!!!! All the money saving tips you shared were phenomenal! I am going to try to compile and organize the tips in some upcoming posts, so please make sure to check back with me! And finally, the winner is A Belle and her Beau! Congratulations!!! Please e-mail me at jenniferlt@hotmail.com with your contact info!!!!

P.S.-Just in case you were wondering, I used the random number generator to pick a winner. Oh and my post about my snow adventure is coming soon!

Snow Day

Guess what! It snowed!!! It snowed a lot! This is pretty exciting for Athens, GA. We are not accustomed to snow. The snow is beautiful, but it has come at a price. We don't have any electricity, and it isn't possible to get out of our drive way. Oh well! I guess I will have to stay snuggled up with my hubby and dogs! :) I have to sign off before my laptop battery dies, but I will be back with pictures and stories once our electricity is restored! Have a very wonderful Monday!
